Cardinals vs. Titans 2013: Ryan Fitzpatrick ‘key in losing the game’

Arizona held on to keep its postseason dreams alive, beating Tennessee in one of the craziest games this season.

The Arizona Cardinals topped the Tennessee Titans, 37-34, in overtime at LP Field on Sunday evening, keeping their playoff dreams alive.

Arizona led 34-17 with less than four minutes remaining but somehow allowed Ryan Fitzpatrick to engineer an amazing comeback, bringing the game to overtime. However, Antoine Cason picked off Fitzpatrick in overtime, setting up Jay Feely's game-winning 41-yard field goal.

Carson Palmer had an economical game for Arizona, completing 20 of 30 passes for 231 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. Andre Ellington also had a nice game on the ground, gaining 71 yards on only 10 carries.

Jesse Reynolds of Revenge of the Birds wrote about Ellington’s afternoon:

This may be the best game Ellington has had as a pro and he's a rookie. Score another late draft pick gem for the Cardinals. Ellington was phenomenal as both a runner and receiver catching four passes for 87 yards and rushing ten times for 71 yards, a total of 158 yards on just 14 touches.

As for Tennessee, it finds itself 5-9 and simply trying to stay in second place in the AFC South. The Titans only rushed for 66 yards while Fitzpatrick threw for 402 yards. The former Harvard star threw four touchdowns but also fired two interceptions.

Over at Music City Miracles, Fitzpatrick is given credit for keeping Tennessee in the game and then ultimately costing it:

Through three quarters, the Titans were really playing mistake free football however (just like every other game) Fitzpatrick was the key in losing the game. Fitzpatrick's erratic passing lead to a pick six and a game losing INT late, but really there were two other times when he could have easily been picked off. The Titans probably won't win another game with Fitzpatrick at quarterback and should consider playing John Skelton or Rusty Smith for pure evaluation purposes.
