Jim Schwartz could be fired if Lions don’t make playoffs, according to report

Patience is wearing thin in Detroit.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has his job riding on the final three games of his team's season.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Schwartz will only keep his job if the Lions make the playoffs. The Lions are 7-6 and in second place of the NFC North. A win over the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football would give the Lions an 8-6 record and allow them to jump the Bears in the division since they hold the tiebreaker.

The Lions have only been to the postseason once under Schwartz. Now in his fifth season as head coach, Schwartz has a record of 29-48 with Detroit. With both the Bears and Packers losing their starting quarterbacks for extended periods of time, the Lions have had plenty of chances to pull away in the division race. But both the Packers and Bears are still alive.

With the amount of talent Detroit has, Schwartz has been given plenty of opportunity to succeed. Now the pressure is on.
