Colts hire Rob Chudzinski as assistant head coach

The former Browns head coach landed an assistant job with the Colts for 2014.

The Indianapolis Colts have hired Rob Chudzinski as special assistant to the head coach. He is expected to work closely with head coach Chuck Pagano.

Chudzinski and Pagano have had a long working relationship. The two men coached together at the University of Miami for eight years, and again in 2004 with the Cleveland Browns. Chudzinski was the Browns' head coach for just one season, being fired at the end of the 2013 season when Cleveland went 4-12. Before that, he was offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers, helping to develop quarterback Cam Newton.

With the nebulous job description, it's unclear what kind of role Chudzinski will have in Indianapolis, but he'll get to work with Andrew Luck and will be reunited with Trent Richardson, whom the Browns traded away at the beginning of the season. Considered a promising offensive mind when he left the Panthers, this could be Chudzinski's chance to get his career back on track after a messy divorce from the Browns.
