Trestman stopped short of outlining specific players who could be kept out of the game, but the decision will hinge on other results in the NFC North. Chicago currently holds a half-game lead over the Green Bay Packers, and a full game lead over the Detroit Lions. Both teams are scheduled to play early on Sunday, so it would ultimately be a game-time decision.
A decision to rest any players in Week 16 is a curious one. The team has not locked up a playoff spot, and potentially opens the door to be unseated. Two wins would guarantee an NFC North win, while finishing the season 1-1 could possibly push Chicago out of the playoffs and grant the Packers an unlikely spot if they’re able to win out the season.
