Jon Gruden reportedly interested in coaching Raiders

CBS Sports is reporting Gruden is also interested in the Atlanta Falcons’ coaching job.

Jon Gruden could be in line to replace Dennis Allen as the Oakland Raiders' head coach, as the current talking head is reportedly interested in returning to the coaching profession if that job were to become open, CBS Sports's Jason La Canfora is reporting.

Gruden, currently working as a broadcaster for ESPN, last coached in 2008, and has been linked to just about every major NFL and collegiate job opening since then. He had his first head coaching gig with the Raiders, going 38-26 in four years from 1998-2001 with two straight division titles before moving to Tampa Bay, where he beat Oakland in the Super Bowl in his first season. After two straight 9-7 seasons and a 57-55 record with the team, Gruden was fired by the Buccanneers after the 2008 season.

Oakland is currently 4-10, and second-year head coach Dennis Allen is on the hot seat and trying to avoid a second-straight four-win season. La Canfora reports that Gruden could also be interested in the Atlanta job, where Mike Smith’s team has fallen from three straight playoff appearances to a 4-10 record.

It was previously reported by ESPN that Gruden would not be coaching in 2014, but that could change if the right opportunity opened up.
