Oakland denies Dennis Allen’s request for assistant extensions, report says

The coach’s career in Oakland appears to be in jeopardy.

Dennis Allen's career with the Oakland Raiders may be over after this season, as owner Mark Davis has rejected the head coach's request to grant extensions to his assistant coaches who are in the final year of their contract, Adam Schefter is reporting.

The move would certainly suggest that Allen’s tenure with the team is nearing an end after just two seasons, which is not completely unsurprising for the notoriously-impatient Raiders. In two seasons, Allen holds an 8-22 record, and will have to win one of the team’s final two games in order to avoid two straight four-win finishes.

Allen was hired away from the Broncos in 2012, where he was the team's defensive coordinator. Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien and former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden are rumored to be potential replacement candidates, and Gruden even has reported interest in the job after being away from coaching for five years.
