Head coach Dennis Allen announced the switch today, according to Levi Damien of Sliver and Black Pride. The news comes one day after rookie Matt McGloin struggled in his sixth start, throwing for 206 yards in a loss to the San Diego Chargers -- bringing his season record to 1-6 as a starter.
Pryor won the starting job in training camp following an impressive preseason. His ability to extend plays with his legs shocked teams early in the year when Pryor was completing over 65-percent of his passes in the first four games of the year, while leading the team in rushing. Things quickly changed in Week 6, his accuracy became scatter shot, touchdowns dried up and turnovers began to mount. He was benched as starter with a 66.0 passer rating, five touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
It’s the last chance for Pryor to impress before the offseason. Oakland will have a top ten pick in the April draft, and a franchise quarterback is paramount on the Raiders’ list of needs.
