T.J. Yates could start for Texans in Week 17

Interim head coach Wade Phillips would not give a straight answer on whether Matt Schaub would start on Sunday, provided Case Keenum is unable to start. This leaves the door open for Yates to play, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. It would be his first start of the 2013 season after appearing in three games. He completed 15 passes for 113 yards and two interceptions in a reserve role.
Phillips' unwillingness to put his faith in Schaub largely centers on the veteran's struggles in Week 16. He failed to complete 50-percent of his passes against the Denver Broncos, failing to pass for 200 yards in a 37-13 loss in which he threw two interceptions.
The once-promising Texans was waiting for 2014, where they currently hold the first overall pick in the draft. It presents an opportunity for Houston to draft a new franchise quarterback, their second attempt since selecting David Carr in 2002.
