The team announced Asomugha's retirement will be made official on Friday after the 11-year veteran was released by the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year. He totaled 356 tackles and 15 interceptions in his career, and was once regarded as the top cornerback in the NFL.

Asomugha was a three-time Pro Bowler and four-time All Pro for the Raiders, but his career took a precipitous drop when he left the West Coast. He was the most sought-after free agent of 2011, eventually signing with the Philadelphia Eagles to forge what was presumed to be the best secondary in the NFL. This dream never materialized, and Asomugha was released by team at the end of the 2012 season after he was unwilling to restructure his five-year, $60 million contract.
The San Francisco 49ers attempted to resurrect his career in the Bay Area, but he ultimately appeared in only three games before being released.
