Buccaneers fire GM Mark Dominik

A 4-12 record in 2013 and a constant flow of off-field troubles cost Dominik his job after five seasons.

Amidst a tumultuous and embarrassing 2013 season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fired general manager Mark Dominik, reports Jay Glazer of Fox Sports. Head coach Greg Schiano was also fired after two seasons on the job.

Under Dominik, who was named the fourth GM in Buccaneers history in January of 2009, Tampa Bay went a combined 25-39 and failed to make the playoffs once during his five seasons at the helm. The team’s one winning season during his tenure came in 2010, but their 10-6 record was not enough to push them into the playoffs during a strong year from NFC South rivals Atlanta and New Orleans.

A disastrous 2013 that saw the Bucs start 0-8 before limping to four wins in the second half proved to be the final straw for Dominik.

Compounding the team's dismal record in 2013 has been a tragicomedy of off-field scandals. Reports of friction between franchise quarterback Josh Freeman, who was Dominik's first-ever draft pick in 2009, and second-year head coach Greg Schiano eventually led to the messy ouster of the former first-rounder in October. Rumors that Schiano's tyrannical approach had cost him the locker room soon followed All the while, reports that the team attempted to cover up a staph outbreak at the team's training camp facilities continued to embarrass the organization.
