Dennis Allen expects to return as Raiders head coach

Allen believes he will have a third season in Oakland to turn around the once-proud franchise.

Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen expects to return for a third season at the helm, according to Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times.

“I expect to be back and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to come back. But those are decisions that somebody else is going to make… But, yeah, I expect to be back.”

The Raiders have finished 4-12 under Allen in each of his first two seasons, although he has not been provided with much talent. Oakland has been trying to get out of salary cap issues, forcing it to get rid of many talented players over the last couple of years including Michael Huff, Michael Bush, Richard Seymour, Tommie Kelly and others.

This offseason appears to be a time when Oakland can begin building its roster back up, free of many of the aforementioned cumbersome contracts. Third-year general manager Reggie McKenzie and owner Mark Davis will have the final call on all personnel decisions, including Allen’s fate.

Allen took over a franchise which has not made the playoffs since Bill Callahan took the Raiders to a Super Bowl appearance in 2002. Since then, Oakland has not had a winning season under any coach, including Art Shell, Tom Cable, Hue Jackson or Norv Turner.
