Sean Lee injury update: Cowboys LB will not have surgery

The Dallas middle linebacker should not need to lay on the operating table this offseason, but rather rest up.

Jeffrey G. Pittenger-USA TODAY S

Dallas Cowboys middle linebacker Sean Lee does not need surgery on his injured neck, according to ESPN.com.

Lee missed five games in 2013, including the final three with his ailing neck keeping him from the field. The former Penn State star and Pittsburgh native racked up 99 tackles in 11 games, his second-best season total.

Lee has had issues staying on the field in his four-year career, never playing 16 games in a season. Last year, Lee only played in six games while being limited with a right toe injury.

Without Lee, the Cowboys suffered down the stretch, going 1-2 against the Green Bay Packers, Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles. Of course, Lee was part of the worst defense in NFL history yardage-wise, allowing 6,645 yards.

Lee is due 7.5 million dollars next season, and has three years left on his contract after that, including a $9 million hit in 2017-18.
