Lions keep Martin Mayhew as general manager, per report

Mayhew won’t be following Jim Schwartz out the door in Detroit.

The Detroit Lions' late-season collapse may have cost the head coach his job, but the general manager is reportedly staying put.

Shortly after news broke Monday that coach Jim Schwartz had been fired, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports is reporting that the Lions will retain GM Martin Mayhew for the 2014 season.

Schwartz was let go Monday in the wake of a four-game losing streak that kept the talented but underachieving Lions out of the postseason. Detroit was 6-3 at one point this season and was still in prime position to make the playoffs as late as Week 13 when they held a 7-5 record. They would not win another game after, finishing 7-9 and spoiling a prime opportunity to capture the NFC North in a down year for the conference. The Packers sealed the division crown on Sunday with an 8-7-1 record.

Mayhew just finished his 13th season with the Lions organization and his fifth year as the general manager.
