The Houston Texans are not planning to interview San Diego offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt for their head coaching vacancy, and Bill O'Brien remains the No. 1 candidate, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Ken Whisenhunt figures to be an attractive head coaching candidate, but he’s not currently in the plans in Houston.
With his head coaching experience and history of offensive success, Whisenhunt figures to be an attractive candidate this offseason. He spent six seasons as the head coach in Arizona, leading the Cardinals to the playoffs twice, including a trip to Super Bowl XLIII.
He spent this season as the Chargers' offensive coordinator after being fired in Arizona. San Diego was much better on offense this season, improving from No. 31 in total yards last season to No. 5 this season. The Chargers improved from No. 20 in scoring to No. 12. Whisenhunt was also successful during his three-year stint as Pittsburgh's offensive coordinator.
While Whisenhunt has a solid resume, his candidacy could be hurt by his inability to interview immediately. With the Chargers making the playoffs as a wild card, Whisenhunt can’t interview until at least after their game in Cincinnati this week. Teams looking to make a hire sooner, rather than later, could turn to other candidates instead of waiting.
There is also a chance things could change in Houston. O’Brien is widely thought to be the No. 1 candidate with a possible deal coming soon. If things fell apart and Houston is forced to move on, Whisenhunt and others could become more viable candidates.
