Vikings request permission to interview Darrell Bevell, per report

Three seasons after leaving for Seattle, the Minnesota Vikings may be interested in bringing Darrell Bevell back. Minnesota requested permission to interview the Seahawks offensive coordinator for its head coaching vacancy, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Bevell served as Minnesota's offensive coordinator from 2006 to 2010. He then left for Seattle where's he found some recent success. The Seahawks finished the regular season with a top 10 scoring offense for the second straight season. Efficiency has been a staple of Bevell's offenses in Seattle and he's been credited for his work with quarterback Russell Wilson.

He coached under Brad Childress with the Vikings and his tenure was up-and-down. Minnesota finished 15th or worse in scoring in three of the five seasons. It all came together in 2009 when the addition of Brett Favre and others helped Minnesota have one of the best offenses in the NFL. The Vikings dropped off substantially the next year, however, falling from No. 2 in scoring to No. 29.

In Seattle, Bevell's offenses has been built around the running game. With Marshawn Lynch and Wilson, the Seahawks have finished in the top four in rushing yards each of the last two seasons. Assuming he would carry a similar game plan to a new team, Adrian Peterson would fit nicely as the focus of a Bevell offense. The Seahawks have a first-round bye in the playoffs and Bevell is restricted from interviewing until Jan. 5.
