AFC West injuries, Week 17: Wes Welker cleared

With San Diego sneaking into the playoffs on Sunday, three of the four AFC West teams are still playing. All three battled injuries late in the season, but they are beginning to get healthy. Denver will have one of its offensive weapons back while a few players could return for the Chiefs.

After he sat out the final three games of the season, Wes Welker was medically cleared Monday to return from his concussion. The slot receiver practiced on a limited basis and should be fully integrated back into the offense when Denver plays next week. Safety Duke Ihenacho suffered a concussion and will now go through the NFL protocol to gain clearance.

The Chiefs rested their starters in week 17, but still have several injury issues. Andy Reid said wide receiver Dwayne Bowe is making progress from a concussion and will practice on Tuesday. Tamba Hali is also making progress and the inflammation in his knee is down. Branden Albert and Justin Houston have missed time, but will be ready to go against Indianapolis.

The Raiders were able to make it through the regular season finale without any serious injuries. Linebacker Kevin Burnett suffered a concussion, cornerback Taiwan Jones injured his ankle and running back Rashad Jennings suffered a stinger. None of the three are long-term injuries.

San Diego clinched a playoff spot with an overtime win and were able to do so without suffering any major injuries. Ryan Mathews and Eddie Royal both played through injuries and completed the game without issue. Mathews played very well, despite a lingering ankle injury.
