Maurice Jones-Drew injury: Jaguars RB to undergo MRI on Friday

Maurice Jones-Drew will undergo an MRI on Friday for a better look at the hamstring injury he suffered Thursday night against the Texans.

Maurice Jones-Drew will undergo an MRI on Friday to examine the hamstring injury he suffered during the Jacksonville Jaguars' win over the Houston Texans on Thursday night, John Oehser of the Jags' official site reports. Jones-Drew topped 100 yards for the first time this season, then was forced out of the game with more than 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Jones-Drew was doubled over in pain on the field after being tackled, but was able to walk off the field under his own power. He seemed cheerful speaking with the NFL Network crew after the win. There is no word yet on his status for Week 15 and beyond.

Jones-Drew is in the midst of a rough season with the Jaguars. Through 13 games, he is averaging just 3.5 yards per carry, which is well below his previous career low of 4.2 YPC set in 2008. Jones-Drew is in the final year of the five-year contract he signed in 2009, and struggles this season could have him looking for a new home when the 2014 free agency period begins.

After the win Thursday, Jones-Drew told Rich Eisen and co. that he would like to stay in Jacksonville beyond this season. He will have to be healthy, much less continue to produce, if he hopes to garner a contract extension.
