Chiefs vs. Redskins 2013 results: KC ends losing streak with blowout win over Washington

Just beating the Redskins might not have been enough to convince doubters that they were for real, so the Chiefs absolutely embarrassed them instead.

The Kansas City Chiefs won their first nine games of the season, but because they played a soft schedule and featured a below-average passing offense, many people doubted the "legitimacy" of their record. Losing their next three games, including two to the AFC West-leading Denver Broncos, did not do anything to help the Chiefs' case. But on Sunday against the Washington Redskins, they showed just how dominating they can be.

Behind the strength of an incredible day on special teams and an efficient day by quarterback Alex Smith, Kansas City beat the Redskins, 45-10, in Washington.

Up 31-0 by the second quarter following a 74-yard punt return touchdown by Dexter McCluster, the Chiefs never let up on their way to their 10th win of the season. After a Redskins touchdown to close the gap to 31-7, Quintin Demps returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for another score.

Washington is now 3-10, and the draft pick they sent to the St. Louis Rams in exchange for the right to draft Robert Griffin III in 2012 keeps getting better and better for the Rams.

Fantasy Studs and Duds

Jamaal Charles had a huge game, rushing for 151 yards and scoring two total touchdowns. Alex Smith threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns, including one to Dwayne Bowe.

Griffin was 12-of-26 for 165 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Running back Alfred Morris had just 31 rushing yards and no scores. Pierre Garcon had just 37 yards.

Injury Report

Redskins tight end Niles Paul left the game with a hip injury. Griffin was pulled in the second half and replaced by Kirk Cousins not because of any injury, but because the game was out of hand.

Did They Cover?

The Chiefs were 3.5-point favorites, according to OddsShark.com, so they covered by quite a bit.

Up Next

The Redskins travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 1:00 p.m. ET.

The Chiefs go to Oakland to play the Raiders at the same date and time.
