McCluster set an all-time Chiefs record - in the first half - for punt return yardage in a game with 177.

Kansas City’s defense also came up big, amassing six sacks and causing two turnovers. The Redskins could do little all afternoon, only having the ball for 25:50 despite giving up two special teams touchdowns. Washington was only 3-for-15 on third down as well.

    Nobody’s happy in D.C.

    Patrick McDermott

Things are off the rails in D.C. The Redskins aren’t rebuilding, they’re regressing and it’s painfully obvious to anyone with a functioning set of eyes and empathy that the Washington Redskins will have a different coach for the 2014 season at the latest.

After Dan Graziano’s report that team owner Dan Snyder’s relationship with Robert Griffin III was toxic to the point where Shanahan considered quitting as the Redskins were preparing for a playoff game, the Redskins came out and laid an egg to the fullest extent in front of one of the sparsest crowds you’ll ever see at an NFL game. The media was chomping at the bit to ask Shanahan and Griffin about the report during their postgame press conferences, and both player and coach seemed resigned and defeated.

Redskins trail by 28 at half

    Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith is 10-of-13 for 108 yards and two touchdowns as Kansas City seems like a virtual lock to end its three-game losing streak. The Chiefs started 9-0 on the year but questions about the “legitimacy” of their record arose after three losses in a row. They have answered some of those questions with a dominating half, but many will still say that the Redskins are one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Griffin has struggled mightily this year, especially compared to how impressive he looked during his rookie season. Griffin is 11-of-18 for 137 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He had five interceptions and 12 fumbles as a rookie, but already has 12 interceptions and 11 fumbles in 2013.

    Shanahan frustrated with RGIII-Snyder relationship

    Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

Citing several different sources close to the team and the head coach, Graziano details a relationship that has soured because of the close attention the owner has paid to Griffin when compared to other players on the team. Shanahan was apparently so frustrated with the situation that he had reportedly cleaned out his office and was prepared to leave the team after the 2013 postseason, but chose to stay after the quarterback’s severe knee injury against Seattle.

Shanahan’s frustration with Snyder stems from what the head coach feels to be detrimental attention paid to Griffin, with the owner essentially playing favorites with his star quarterback at the expense of others with the team, and therefore fostering an environment not exactly conducive to winning.
