The Kansas City Chiefs moved on step closer to their first playoff berth since 2010, demolishing the Washington Redskins 45-10 at FedEx Field on Sunday.

Kansas City snapped its three-game losing streak, hammering the Redskins on their on turf.
The game was never in doubt, with Kansas City up 31-0 halfway through the second quarter and 38-10 at halftime. The Chiefs had contributions from all three phases of the game. Dexter McCluster had a 74-yard punt return for a touchdown, and Quintin Demps followed suit with a 95-yard kickoff return for a score.
McCluster set an all-time Chiefs record - in the first half - for punt return yardage in a game with 177.
Kansas City’s defense also came up big, amassing six sacks and causing two turnovers. The Redskins could do little all afternoon, only having the ball for 25:50 despite giving up two special teams touchdowns. Washington was only 3-for-15 on third down as well.
Offensively, Jamaal Charles led the way as usual with 151 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, accompanied by a receiving score. Alex Smith was also excellent, completing 14 of 20 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns.
Over at Arrowhead Pride, Joel Thorman was matter-of-fact after the win, writing about the playoff scenarios that now exist for the Chiefs going into Week 15:
The Chiefs needed the Vikings to beat the Ravens and they almost did it. Matt Cassel threw a 79-yard touchdown pass with less than a minute left to give the Vikings a four-point lead. Unfortunately, Joe Flacco pulled a miracle and threw a touchdown pass with four seconds left to win the game.
The Chiefs also came very close to getting their wish when the Steelers final play, which included a number of laterals, almost went back for a game-winning touchdown. The refs, however, ruled that Antonio Brown stepped out of bounds while running for the game winning touchdown. So, no good and the Chiefs do not clinch.
The Chiefs path to the playoffs next week is beating the Raiders.
As for Washington, the Redskins sit 3-10 and it appears only a matter of time before head coach Mike Shanahan and his coaching staff are given their walking papers. Washington has lost five straight and is on a road to oblivion without its first round draft pick this year, traded to the St. Louis Rams as part of the Robert Griffin III deal.
