NFL combine 2013 results: Running back 40-yard dash times and more

Running back workouts at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine are in the books and while no player stole the show, several players performed well.

Unlike previous seasons, the 2013 NFL Draft isn’t loaded with elite running back prospects, but several players boosted their draft stock during the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine. As is usually the case with running back workouts, there was plenty of athleticism on display in Indianapolis.

The 40-yard dash draws the most attention and Onterio McCalebb led the way for running backs. McCalebb posted a 4.34 40 time, 0.03 ahead of Knile Davis who finished second at 4.37. Kerwynn Williams at 4.48 and Johnathan Franklin at 4.49 were the only other players to run faster than 4.5.

Davis showed off both speed and power as he completed 31 reps on the bench press, the second-highest total among running backs. Tommy Bohanon led running backs with 36 reps. LSU’s Michael Ford fared well as he posted the longest broad jump at 10’10” and the third-highest vertical jump at 38.5”. Christine Michael posted a 43” vertical jump, four inches higher than any other running back.

Giovani Bernard, arguably the top running back prospect in the draft, ran a 4.53 40 to go along with 19 bench press reps, a 33.5” vertical and a broad jump of 10’2”. Alabama’s Eddie Lacy did not work out at the combine due to a hamstring injury.
