Jets front office has yet to contact Darrelle Revis

The Jets camp at the 2013 NFL Combine was reportedly just a six-minute walk from the hotel of Revis’s agents.

During an interview with Andrea Kramer of NFL Network last week, New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis said "I was speechless because I didn't get a phone call." That trend reportedly did not change at the 2013 NFL Combine, as Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the team didn't meet with representatives of the three-time All-Pro during the week.

Whether or not the Jets were simply too busy to meet with Revis, they evidently were not too busy for many other players on the team, according to Mehta. The reporter notes that the team “met with representatives of Santonio Holmes, Dustin Keller, Jeff Cumberland, Austin Howard, Shonn Greene and LaRon Landry during the week, but elected not to talk to Revis’ agents.”

Revis played in just two games during the 2012 season before a torn ACL ended his season and sent him to injured reserve. In his absence, the Jets defense finished eighth in the league and allowed the second-fewest passing yardage; however, the offense struggled and the team finished 6-10.

With a possible rebuild on their hands, an NFC executive told Mehta that Jets owner Woody Johnson isn’t a fan of the idea of big money for Revis:

One NFC executive told The News that there is a sentiment around the league that Johnson not only isn’t interested in making Revis the highest-paid defensive player in the league, which would mean a salary of around $16 million per year, but that the owner doesn’t want to sign the cornerback to a lucrative long-term deal at all given the dire state of the franchise.

The Jets have already had to make moves to bump themselves under the salary cap, releasing Bart Scott and Calvin Pace, among others, to do so. Revis is not scheduled to be a free agent until the 2017 offseason; however, the final three seasons of the deal are voidable, meaning he could hit unrestricted free agency in 2014.
