The Cleveland Browns have nearly $50 million worth of cap space headed into free agency -- and appear poised to spend a fair amount of it. The Browns have been in contact with cornerback Captain Munnerlyn's agent, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

The Cleveland Browns have nearly $50 million to spend this offseason, and need help in the secondary. The Browns are reportedly interested in at least one of Carolina’s free-agent cornerbacks.

The Browns and Munnerlyn already have a built-in connection. Rod Chudzinski, hired as Cleveland’s latest head coach in January, served as Carolina’s offensive coordinator for the last two seasons, and knows Munnerlyn as well as any coach in the league.
Munnerlyn appeared in all 16 games for the Panthers last season, and recorded a career-high 61 tackles. Munnerlyn had two interceptions last season, and returned them both for touchdowns.
Cleveland will attempt to boost its secondary through free agency and the draft. Per Nate Ulrich, the Browns are shopping for a starter opposite Joe Haden -- and a slot cornerback as well, to appear in nickel and dime packages.
Munnerlyn was drafted by the Panthers in the seventh round (No. 216 overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft, out of the University of South Carolina.
