Late last week, Chris Gamble was released by the Carolina Panthers, and figured to draw interest from a number of teams throughout the NFL. Gamble, however, doesn't appear to care what teams are interested in him. Gamble told his agent that wants to retire from his career as an NFL player, according to Josina Anderson.
Chris Gamble reportedly ready to retire from NFL
Chris Gamble was released by the Carolina Panthers late last week, and is reportedly ready to retire from the NFL.
Carl Potson, Gamble’s agent, relayed the following message to Anderson regarding his client:
A number of teams have expressed interest in Chris Gamble. However, Chris informed me last night that he wants to retire. Even though he still loves football, he told me that he’s decided to focus on life after football. Chris has been a class act. I have represented him for nine years, ever since he came out of Ohio State. He’s been an ideal client and he was one of the best corners in game. He’s doing it the right way. He has taken care of his money and his investments to retire successfully, and now I wish him the best in his future endeavors.
Carolina selected Gamble in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft, with the No. 28 overall pick out of Ohio State. Gamble holds two Panthers franchise records -- most career interceptions (27) and most passes defended (96).
Gamble signed a six-year, $53 million contract in 2008, preventing the cornerback from reaching unrestricted free agency. The Panthers released Gamble after four years of the contract, however, making Gamble an unrestricted free agent late last week.
The Patriots were among the teams interested in Gamble after Carolina released him, but it doesn't appear that Gamble's interest is mutual.
If this is indeed the end for Gamble, he ends his career with 508 tackles, 27 interceptions, 96 passes defended, and two defensive touchdowns.
