Anquan Boldin trade: Ravens WR Torrey Smith unhappy with deal

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith is upset that Anquan Boldin was traded to the San Francisco 49ers -- and took to Twitter to air his grievances.

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith didn't take the news of Anquan Boldin's trade too well. Smith took to Twitter after news of the trade broke, telling the public that "this business is BS sometimes."

Earlier Monday, the Ravens traded Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers -- the same 49ers they defeated in Super Bowl XLVII -- in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick. Boldin was unwilling to reduce his salary in 2013, and the Ravens were forced to make a decision -- to pay Boldin, release him, or trade him. Ultimately, the Ravens decided the $6 million Boldin is due in 2013 is best spent elsewhere on the roster.

It’s easy to understand Smith’s frustration, as Boldin was an integral member of Baltimore’s Super Bowl run that wrapped up just over a month ago. Smith likely benefited from Boldin’s experience to help become a better wide receiver, and also likely benefited from other defenses paying attention to Boldin on the field -- freeing up Smith.

Smith is still two seasons away from restricted free agency himself, and the Ravens could find themselves needing to make a similar business decision in two years with Smith.

BS or not, the NFL is a business, and Ozzie Newsome has proven himself as one of the NFL’s top businessmen -- Smith will likely realize this sooner rather than later.
