The New Orleans Saints continue to try to create cap room before the NFL free agency period is set to begin with the release of linebacker Will Herring, according to Larry Holder of the Times-Picayune.
New Orleans Saints release linebacker Will Herring, according to report
Herring played in all 16 games last season for the Saints.

Herring is a 29-year-old linebacker who just finished his second season with the Saints and his sixth overall season in the NFL. Herring played in all 16 games last year for the Saints and finished the season with 13 tackles and 1 forced fumble as he backed up the strongside linebacker spot and played special teams.
Herring is just one of several players the team has to make decisions on, including potential restructured contracts for Will Smith and Jonathan Vilma as well as pending free agents like Jermon Bushrod and Chase Daniel.
In 81 games, Herring has 131 tackles, 2 interceptions and 1 sack in his career with the Saints and Seattle Seahawks. He will likely be a late round addition in the free agency period, potentially even after the NFL Draft as special teams help and linebacker depth.
