Seattle Seahawks release Leon Washington

Washington was released by Seattle on Tuesday, after three successful years in the Pacific Northwest.

Just one day after acquiring the electric Percy Harvin, the Seattle Seahawks parted ways with another talented player -- Leon Washington. Seattle released Washington on Tuesday, according to the kick returner himself via Twitter.

Washington spent three years in Seattle after being acquired from the New York Jets for a fifth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Washington was never much of a factor offensively, but did notch a rushing touchdown each of his years in Seattle.

In his first year with the Seahawks, Washington tallied three kick returns for touchdowns. Washington was named an All-Pro that season, finishing the year with 249 punt return yards and 1,461 kick return yards -- to go along with his three touchdowns.

In 2012, he was named to the Pro Bowl, finishing the year with 356 punt return yards and 784 kickoff return yards. Washington returned one kickoff for a touchdown and was second in the NFL, averaging 29.0 yards per kickoff return that season.

Washington leaves Seattle as the franchise record holder in kick returns for touchdowns with four, longest kickoff return for a touchdown (101 yards), and the most kickoff returns in a game -- when he returned two for touchdowns in 2010.
