Mike DeVito signed by Chiefs, according to report

The Kansas City Chiefs signed former Jets defensive lineman Mike DeVito on Tuesday, according to The Kansas City Star.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed Mike DeVito away from the New York Jets on Tuesday, according to The Kansas City Star.

New York hoped to re-sign DeVito, but with limited cap space, the Jets weren’t able to offer him enough money to keep him in New Jersey.

DeVito appeared in 16 games for the Jets in 2012, and started a career-high 15 of those games. DeVito recorded 52 tackles, forced two fumbles and registered one sack for Gang Green last season.

New York signed DeVito as an undrafted free agent in 2007, out of the University of Maine. He spent the first six years of his professional career with the Jets, but now has decided to move on and team up with Andy Reid in Kansas City.

DeVito is a solid run-stopper, but isn’t a force on passing downs. Still, he figures to be a good fit for Kansas City’s defense, as Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton coached DeVito in New York.
