Bradley Fletcher signed by Eagles, according to report

Defensive back Bradley Fretcher has reached an agreement with the Philadelphia Eagles, according a report.

Former St. Louis Rams defensive back Bradley Fletcher will sign with the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Adam Caplan.

Fletcher, a former third-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, spent the last four years with the Rams and in that time has made 149 tackles with one sack and picked off five passes. He’s also broken up 21 passes and forced two fumbles. Fletcher was ranked by Pro Football Focus as the ninth-best free agent cornerback heading into the new league year.

It's likely that the signing of Fletcher is to help replace Nnamdi Asomugha, who was released by the Eagles earlier on Tuesday, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who might leave as an unrestricted free agent. The Eagles had the ninth-best passing defense in the league in 2012 when it comes to yards allowed, giving up an average of only 216.9 yards per game through the air, but allowed more passing touchdowns than any other team in the league throughout the regular season.

The Eagles would have owed Asomugha more than $4 million for the 2013 season. With Asomugha not performing to expectations, signing Fletcher should help both on the field and in their bank account. If they do bring back Rodgers-Cromartie, he could start alongside Fletcher. If not, they’ll still have to find their second cornerback.
