The Minnesota Vikings and linebacker Erin Henderson have agreed to a two-year contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Twitter. The deal came just hours after free agency opened on Tuesday, even though the Vikings could have extended him at any point.

The Minnesota Vikings have agreed in principle to re-sign linebacker Erin Henderson to a two-year contract, according to a report.

It’s unclear if Henderson and the Vikings had the framework of a deal completed and Henderson simply wanted to test the open market, or if the time frame in question simply worked out this way. Either way, Henderson will remain with the team he’s spent his entire career with.

Henderson is 26 years old and has been with the Vikings since 2008. In 2012, he played in 14 games and had 79 combined tackles (50 solo), to go with three sacks and a forced fumble. He also had four passes defensed last season.
He put up similar numbers in 2011, after he returned from a gruesome leg injury. He’s been a starter for the Vikings and has been considered generally underrated for most of his career. He should be a starter going forward for the Vikings as they look to make another playoff run in 2013.
