Kevin Burnett released by Dolphins

Burnett, who started every game over the last two seasons for Miami, is reportedly being released.

The Miami Dolphins are somewhat busy on the first day of NFL free agent flurries and they are continuing to make moves, this time releasing linebacker Kevin Burnett according to Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter on Tuesday.

Burnett was the second linebacker let go by the Dolphins on Tuesday, along with Karlos Dansby. A seven-year veteran out of Tennessee, Burnett played in all 32 regular season games over his two seasons in Miami. He followed up a 106-combined tackle, 2.5-sack 2011 campaign -- during which he also returned an interception for a touchdown -- with 109 combined tackles and 2.5 sacks in 2012.

The release of Burnett figures to be a ripple effect from the moves made by the Dolphins earlier on Tuesday, as they signed free agent linebackers Dannell Ellerbe and Philip Wheeler.

Drafted in 2005 by the Dallas Cowboys, Burnett played there until signing with the San Diego Chargers as a free agent in 2009. He signed with Miami in 2011.
