2013 NFL free agency: Reggie Bush signs with Lions

After proving his worth in Miami over the last two seasons, running back Reggie Bush has found a new home in Detroit.

Reggie Bush has found a new home after two seasons with the Dolphins, as he has signed a four-year contract with the Detroit Lions, according to Lions lead writer Tim Twentyman.

Bush, who was selected with the second overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints, didn't really get to prove his worth until the 2011 season. The Saints weren't interested in using Bush as a full-time back and only used him in certain situations. After five years in which he never racked up more than 581 yards in a season, he was allowed to leave.

He signed with the Dolphins, who gave him his first opportunity as an every-down back, and Bush didn’t disappoint. In 2011, Bush ran the ball for more than 1,000 yards and six touchdowns, another career high, and in 2012, he missed out on another 1,000-yard season by just 14 yards.

Bush will not only give the Lions a back that can carry the load on first and second down, as he showed with the Dolphins, but a specialist that can not only catch the ball out of the backfield, but as a receiver in the slot as well. In his seven years, Bush has caught 15 touchdown passes, and he’s contributed as a special teams player, as well, returning four punts for touchdowns.

The Lions have been tied to Bush for weeks now and were considered the favorites to land him over his other suitors. On Wednesday morning, it was reported that Bush would be promised the starting job in Detroit if he signed, moving Mikel Leshoure to the backup role.
