NFL Free Agency: Chiefs signs Donnie Avery
Wide receiver Donnie Avery will be joining the Kansas City Chiefs after signing on Wednesday.
In 2010 Avery suffered a knee injury that kept him out of the entire season with the Rams and he didn't bounce back into his early career form until last season. But now he appears to be back on track and should serve as a solid No. 2 behind Dwayne Bowe in Kansas City.
His greatest asset is his speed as he should offer a deep threat for the Chiefs and serve as a way to open up defenses underneath for other receivers. Avery has had some issues with drops that could be a cause for concern for Kansas City. In 2012 he dropped 12 passes, which accounts for 16.67 percent of all balls deemed catchable, making him worst in the league in that category according to Pro Football Focus.
Still, Avery should serve as the No. 2 receiver in Kansas City, making things easier for Bowe and quarterback Alex Smith by opening up Andy Reid’s passing attack.
