The craziness of the first few hours of free agency has passed, but teams are remaining plenty active on Day 2. Free agents continue to get signed, and a few new players hit the market after being released by their old teams.
NFL free agency update: Lions and Titans among most active
Free agency slowed down a bit on Wednesday, but several teams remained active, none more than the Lions and Titans.
The Lions have been the most active team on Wednesday, signing two players and nearing terms with others as they continue to try to land Reggie Bush.
Tennessee continued to be one of the biggest players in free agency, as well, after having a busy Tuesday.
A recap of Wednesday’s moves is below.
Reggie Bush, RB - Detroit Lions
The Lions brought Bush in for a Wednesday morning visit, and he ended up signing a four-year deal to give Detroit a much-needed threat at running back. Detroit’s brass reportedly sees Bush as a feature back. Bush’s ability as a receiver out of the backfield fits well with the Lions’ offense. Mikel Leshoure will still some work in short yardage and between the tackles.
Chris Houston, CB - Detroit Lions
Detroit made moves to address its porous secondary be re-signing Houston to a five-year deal. Houston was the Lions’ best corner last season, but they will need to put better pieces around him if they hope to improve their pass defense.
Andy Reid continues to retool the Chiefs roster, adding another target for new quarterback Alex Smith. Avery will serve as the No. 2 receiver behind Dwayne Bowe.
Shonn Greene, RB - Tennessee Titans
Greene will serve as a capable backup for Chris Johnson in Tennessee. As a more physical back, Greene should serve as a good compliment to the speedy Johnson.
Jason Jones, DL - Detroit Lions
After losing Kyle Vanden Bosch and with Cliff Avril expected to sign elsewhere, Jones helps add some depth to the Lions' defensive line. He signed a three-year deal and can play defensive tackle, but is likely to step into the starting defensive end role.
Manny Lawson, LB - Buffalo Bills
The Bills address one of the worst linebacker corps in the league by signing Lawson, who recorded 39 tackles and two sacks with the Bengals last season. He joins his former college teammate Mario Williams in the Bills' pass rush.
The former Cardinal will join defensive coordinator Ray Horton in Cleveland, where he is expected to land one of the starting positions at outside linebacker as the Browns transition to a 3-4. Groves signed a two-year deal.
Quinn Johnson, FB - Tennessee Titans
With Chris Johnson (and now Shonne Greene), Quinn Johnson won’t get many carries, but he will continue his role as lead blocker with a new two-year deal.
Brown's arrival means the end of Lawrence Tynes in New York. Brown, 34, has played for the Bengals, Rams and Seahawks in his 10-year career.
Ben Roethlisberger hasn't played all 16 games since 2008, and the Steelers made a smart move to secure a new backup in Gradkowski. This signals the end of Charlie Batch's and Byron Letfwich's tenures in Pittsburgh.
Ravens release SS Bernard Pollard
Baltimore continues to shed themselves of defensive starters, releasing Pollard. Last season with the Super Bowl champs, Pollard recorded 98 tackles and an interception.
Bears release TE Kellen Davis
With the signing of Martellus Bennett on Tuesday, this move was an inevitability in Chicago. Davis now joins the ranks of free agent tight ends.
