Falcons sign Steven Jackson

After being the force behind the Rams’ offense for nearly a decade, Steven Jackson has signed with the Atlanta Falcons.

Free agent running back Steven Jackson is a member of team other than the St. Louis Rams for the first time in a decade after he has signed with the Atlanta Falcons, according to Adam Schefter, with D. Orlando Ledbetter reporting it's a three-year deal.

Jackson, a three-time Pro Bowler, carried the ball just under 2,400 times for the Rams in his nine-year career in St. Louis for 10,135 yards and 56 touchdowns. He has also been a great receiver out of the backfield, catching 407 passes for 3,324 yards and another eight touchdowns.

Jackson, a former first-round pick, has been one of the best running backs in the league in his time, but has unfortunately seen little success on the field along with the Rams. While his best years are likely behind him, he still has a few seasons left and can easily upgrade the Falcons' backfield. Michael Turner had his fair share of success with the Falcons, but Jackson's versatility makes him an upgrade.

Jackson voided his contract with the Rams following the 2012 season, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent. Heading into 2013, Jackson has had eight straight 1,000-yard seasons and has scored at least four touchdowns every year.

With a few more seasons playing at a high level like he did in St. Louis, Jackson could run his way into the Hall of Fame by the time he retires.
