Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie signs with Broncos

Free agent cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has reached a one-year deal with the Broncos, moving from the NFC East to the AFC West.

Former Eagles cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has reportedly signed a one-year deal with the Denver Broncos, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. The Broncos later confirmed the report.

Rodgers-Cromartie was a first-round pick in the 2008 NFL draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He played in every game for the Cardinals over the next three seasons before he was traded, along with a second-round pick, to the Eagles in exchange for quarterback Kevin Kolb. Rodgers-Cromartie played in every game but three for the Eagles over the past two seasons.

In his five-year career, Rodgers-Cromartie has made 215 tackles, one sack, has picked off 16 passes and broken up another 84. He returned four of his interceptions for touchdowns.

Rodgers-Cromartie played in a star-studded but underachieving cast in the Eagles secondary that included Nnamdi Asomugha and Asante Samuel.

This was the second big-name acquisition that the Broncos signed on Wednesday, as they picked up wide receiver Wes Welker earlier in the day.

The Broncos finished the 2012 season with a 13-3 season and were the No. 1 seed in the AFC heading into the playoffs. They were defeated at home by the Baltimore Ravens, the conference's No. 6 seed, in the divisional round. The Ravens went on to defeat the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.
