Keenan Lewis will sign with Saints, according to report

The New Orleans Saints are close to a contract agreement with free-agent cornerback Keenan Lewis, according to Adam Schefter.

The New Orleans Saints will sign free-agent cornerback Keenan Lewis, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Lewis announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he was visiting New Orleans. Apparently, the visit went well for both parties, and will result in the two sides reaching a contract agreement.

Terms of the contract are currently unknown.

Lewis recorded 71 tackles for the Steelers in 2012 and forced one fumble. Despite not intercepting a pass all season, Lewis defended 23 passes.

Pittsburgh drafted Lewis in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of Oregon State. Lewis didn't become a full-time starter for the Steelers until 2012, when he started all 16 games, and proved to be a capable starting corner. Prior to 2012, Lewis had one career start to his name.

Lewis figures to start in Rob Ryan’s defense in New Orleans, as the Saints look to drastically improve their passing defense, which ranked No. 31 in the NFL. Last season, New Orleans’ defense allowed opposing quarterbacks to throw for 292.6 yards per game.

Lewis figures to start opposite Jabari Greer, in what appears to be a very respectable cornerback duo in New Orleans.
