Eagles acquire WR Arrelious Benn from Buccaneers

The Eagles have traded for wide receiver Arrelious Benn from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Philadelphia Eagles received wide receiver Arrelious Benn along with a seventh-round pick from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for a 2013 sixth-round pick and a conditional 2014 pick in a trade Friday, according to the Eagles on Twitter.

Benn was the Buccaneers’ second-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft out of Illinois. Benn has good size for a wide receiver, standing at 6’2 and weighing in at 220 pounds, and he has the speed to challenge defenses deep, but he has struggled to make a big impact on the field in his three seasons in Tampa.

Benn has caught 59 passes for a total of 862 yards and five touchdowns. He missed half of the 2012 season after being place on injured reserve due to shoulder and knee injuries suffered in the first half of the year. He has contributed on special teams, though, was one of the Buccaneers’ leaders on kickoff coverage and spent time as a kick returner as well.

Benn will look to get on the field alongside DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, the two top receivers for the Eagles, and will hope to have a productive season under first-year head coach Chip Kelly in the upcoming season.
