Dan Connor signed by Giants, according to report

The New York Giants signed free agent linebacker Dan Connor on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Giants signed free agent linebacker Dan Connor on Saturday, according to NBC's Pro Football Talk.

Connor spent the 2012 season with the Dallas Cowboys, reuniting with former Penn State teammate, Sean Lee. Connor appeared in 14 games for Dallas, and started eight. He finished the season with 57 tackles, and did not record a sack or force a fumble.

Before signing with the Giants, Connor visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders.

The Carolina Panthers originally drafted Connor in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft, with the No. 74 overall pick. Connor spent four years with the Panthers before signing with the Cowboys in 2012.

Now in New York, Connor figures to battle for playing time at middle linebacker. Chase Blackburn served as New York’s starting middle linebacker in 2012, and is currently an unrestricted free agent. Connor will likely compete against Mark Herzlich, who served as New York’s backup middle linebacker last season.
