Elvis Dumervil rumors: Leaving agent; Ravens, Dolphins among teams on radar

After Elvis Dumervil was released due to a fax machine snafu, the Ravens and the Dolphins, along with a few other teams, have the pass rusher on their radars.

Elvis Dumervil's release has been one of the weirdest of the 2013 league year. After a fax of Dumervil's signed contract with terms for a pay cut didn't get sent back to the Broncos front office by the 2 p.m. ET deadline, the team released him in order to avoid paying him a guaranteed $12 million.

While Dumervil’s agent blames the Broncos for not sending the correct contract until 1:33 p.m., Dumervil may blame his agent. It seems that he is going to be represented by someone else soon:

Now that Dumervil is a free agent, though, there are several teams that have the talented pass rusher planted firmly on their radars. Two potential teams are the Baltimore Ravens and the Miami Dolphins.

According to Aaron Wilson, the Ravens hope to meet with Dumervil in the upcoming week to discuss a deal that would land him in Baltimore.

Dumervil, a Miami native, has also expressed an interest, according to his agent, in signing with the Dolphins so he can return home to play football. However, the Dolphins haven't been specifically named as a team that has reached out to Dumervil.

Dumervil's agent (for now), Marty Magid, has stated that he has taken calls from several interested teams, according to the Denver Post's Mike Klis. Dumervil will be visiting those teams once general managers return from the owners' meetings.

Dumervil made 225 tackles in his six years with the Broncos, as well as 63.5 sacks, one interception and one safety. He is the best pass rusher available now on the open market. For the Broncos to re-sign him, even at the lower rate that they had negotiated before his release, they would have to make cap room for him. In the end, Dumervil’s release could work out in his favor.
