Elvis Dumervil may stay in Denver after all. The Broncos have offered the free agent defensive end a new contract according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, days after releasing him.
Elvis Dumervil rumors: Broncos offer contract to defensive end
After releasing Elvis Dumervil due to a failure to meet a fax deadline, the Denver Broncos have offered the defensive end a new contract.
Dumervil had agreed to a renegotiated contract and pay cut to remain with the Broncos, but the signed contract was not faxed prior to the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Friday, March 15. As a result Dumervil was released by the Broncos in order to avoid paying the $12 million that was guaranteed in his old contract. The reworked deal had reduced his 2013 guaranteed salary to $8 million.
Terms of the latest contract proposal were not released, but it is expected to be far lower than the three-year, $30 million deal that had been agreed to prior to the fax snafu. There are still several impact defensive ends available in free agency, lowering the value Dumervil will receive on the open market. Apart for the Broncos, the Baltimore Ravens are known to be among the teams pursuing Dumervil.
