Linebacker Brian Urlacher will not be back with the Chicago Bears next season, and he's not happy about it. Urlacher took to Twitter to vent his frustrations on Wednesday, saying that the talk with the Bears over a new contract was "not a negotiation, it was an ultimatum."

Urlacher also said that he’s going to miss his teammates in Chicago. Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune had some details of what went down, and it’s clear the two sides clearly started out on opposite ends of the spectrum. Urlacher was looking for a two-year deal worth $11.5 million overall, and the Bears offered him a one-year contract worth a maximum of $2 million.

According to the report, Urlacher said that he still feels like he’s a decent football player, and that the contract offer was “somewhat of a slap in the face.” He then iterated that the Bears said that the $2 million was a “take-it-or-leave-it” deal, and that if Urlacher didn’t accept that contract number, he wouldn’t be able to finish out his career with Chicago.
While Urlacher started out asking just over $5.5 million per season over two seasons, he told the Tribune that he was likely to accept a contract in the $3 million range had the Bears continued negotiations.
It’s likely that Urlacher will be able to find another team in 2013, which means he’ll don a new uniform for the first time in his entire career. His value, though, is hard to place given his injuries in recent seasons.
