Bears agree to 2-year contract with Steve Maneri

Chicago has signed another blocking tight end out of Temple.

The Chicago Bears have agreed to a two-year deal with tight end Steve Maneri, according to the team's Twitter account on Thursday. Details of the contract were not disclosed at this time.

After news broke earlier Thursday morning that the Bears' second-year tight end Evan Rodriguez, out of Temple, was arrested in Miami, Chicago added a fellow former Owl in Maneri to the depth chart at the same position.

As an undrafted free agent, Maneri began his NFL career in 2010 as an offensive tackle with the Houston Texans. But after getting cut in Houston, Maneri bounced on and off the New England Patriots' practice squad before being claimed off waivers by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2011.

In six games in 2011, Maneri caught only one pass in Kansas City, and in 2012, playing in 13 games, he caught five passes for 51 yards. It’s probably not shocking to hear, then, that the 6’6, 280-pounder is primarily a blocking tight end.
