Buccaneers willing to trade 2014 1st- and 2nd-round picks for Jets’ Darrelle Revis

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reluctant to move their 2013 first-round draft pick, but reportedly are willing to deal their 2014 first- and second-round picks in exchange for Darrelle Revis.

Darrelle Revis could find himself playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013, as the Buccaneers have emerged as the cornerback's only "serious bidder," according to Sports Illustrated's Peter King.

Tampa Bay is reportedly willing to trade its 2014 first- and second-round draft picks in exchange for Revis, but the Jets are trying to pry away Tampa Bay's 2013 first-rounder and an additional pick.

Revis’s contract is set to expire after the 2013 season, and he is coming off of reconstructive knee surgery. Revis was one of the league’s top cornerbacks prior to his knee injury, but it remains to be seen how effective he will be going forward.

The Buccaneers will likely attempt to extend Revis past the 2013 season if they acquire him, preventing him from reaching free agency. This year's cornerback market has been down, as illustrated by Aqib Talib's one-year, $5 million deal.

Tampa Bay's secondary was the Achilles' heel of the Buccaneers in 2012. Tampa Bay's pass defense was the worst in the NFL, surrendering 297.4 yards per game to opposing quarterbacks. The Buccaneers have already addressed the secondary through free agency, signing Dashon Goldson to a five-year deal, but they are still attempting to further improve the secondary.

If the Jets are looking for a long-term solution at quarterback, they could be well-served taking Tampa Bay’s 2014 first-round pick, since the 2014 quarterback draft class appears to be stronger than the 2013 draft class, as King points out.
