2013 NFL free agency: Ted Ginn signs one-year deal with Panthers, per reports
Former 49ers wide receiver and return specialist Ted Ginn has reportedly signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers, according to reports.
Ginn, a product of Ohio State, was the Miami Dolphins' first-round pick in the 2007 NFL draft. Ginn played in every game in his three years with the Dolphins, catching 128 passes for 1,664 yards and five touchdowns as well as two kick return touchdowns and a punt returned for a touchdown. He was traded to the 49ers in 2010 for a fifth-round pick.
Over the next three years with the Niners, he was less of a receiving threat, only catching one touchdown pass, and used more on special teams, returning two punts for touchdowns and a kick for a touchdown as well. In his career he has caught 234 passes for 5,431 yards and three touchdowns as well as six return touchdowns.
The Panthers can use a little help at wide receiver. Steve Smith's career has been revitalized by Cam Newton's arm, but the talented quarterback could use even more weapons around him. The Panthers' passing game was ranked 16th in the league in 2012 and if they want to compete with the Saints, Falcons and Buccaneers, they need to boost their offense. Ginn should help.
