Titans RB Javon Ringer surprised by Shonn Greene signing

Ringer, hurt for most of the Titans’ 2012 season, remains a free agent while Tennessee signed former Jets running back Shonn Greene to a $10 million contract.

Titans running back Chris Johnson first publicly questioned why Tennessee was bringing in free agent running back Shonn Greene.

Not that Johnson, the clear and unquestioned starter, should worry about demotion. Javon Ringer, the erstwhile steadfast backup in the Titans' stable and a free agent himself, seemed to be more justified in questioning the transaction.

It hasn’t been lost on Ringer, either. The Tennessean reported Saturday Ringer wondered why the Titans would bring in another running back after the team had, in his opinion, multiple other running options.

He doesn’t take away anything from Johnson, noting “I was backing up one of the NFL’s best running backs. Now I just want a shot, a fair opportunity, and hopefully I can get that somewhere else.”

Ringer was hurt for almost all of the 2012 season, rushing just two times for 14 yards. Johnson had a solid season, racking up 1,475 total yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns for the 6-10 Titans. They have the 10th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
