Broncos to go after Dwight Freeney, John Abraham per reports

With Elvis Dumervil out of the picture, the Denver Broncos are expected to sign either Dwight Freeney or John Abraham.

The Baltimore Ravens agreed to terms on a five-year deal with Elvis Dumervil on Sunday, leaving a pass-rushing void for the Denver Broncos. Denver will attempt to replace Dumervil's production with either Dwight Freeney or John Abraham, according to both The Denver Post's Mike Klis and ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Klis notes that Abraham was the more productive player last season, but Schefter believes that Denver will instead make a strong push for Freeney. Abraham spent the last seven seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, and recorded 10 sacks for Atlanta in 2012, despite battling injuries toward the end of the season. Abraham also forced six fumbles and defended seven passes, helping the Falcons claim the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Freeney wasn't as productive in 2012, registering just 12 tackles and five sacks in 14 games with the Colts. Freeney spent the majority of his career as a defensive end, but moved to linebacker in 2012 in Chuck Pagano's defensive scheme.

Unlike Abraham, Freeney has a connection with the Broncos, and it's a big one -- Peyton Manning. Freeney and Manning went to two Super Bowls in Indianapolis, coming away with one Super Bowl title. Manning attempted to recruit Freeney to Denver earlier this offseason after the Colts announced they would not bring back Freeney in 2013.

Both Freeney and Abraham visited the Broncos last week, and both visited the New England Patriots previously this offseason, but both remain unsigned.
