Free-agent cornerback Antoine Winfield is scheduled to visit with the Washington Redskins on Wednesday -- but that visit might not occur. Winfield is believed to be considering offers from "at least" two other teams, according to The Washington Post.
Antoine Winfield scheduled to visit Redskins, considering two other offers, per report
Free-agent cornerback Antoine Winfield is scheduled to visit Washington on Wednesday, and is also reportedly considering offers from ‘at least’ two other teams.
Winfield was surprisingly released by the Minnesota Vikings early in March, and has yet to find a home in free agency. Instead of holding out for the largest payday, Winfield is reportedly seeking out the "perfect fit," and that could very well be in Minnesota, as the Vikings have shown interest in re-signing him.
Washington's interest in Winfield isn't surprising. The Redskins have been seeking help in the secondary since the onset of free agency, and it was reported that the Redskins attempted to sign Aqib Talib, before he re-signed with the New England Patriots. The cap penalties levied on Washington have made it difficult for the Redskins to properly address secondary concerns.
Entering his age 36 season in 2013, Winfield is in the twilight of his career. He has spent the last nine years with the Vikings, after the first five seasons of his professional career with the Buffalo Bills. Winfield has never advanced further than the NFC Championship game.
