Free agent offensive lineman Lance Louis agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins Wednesday after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears, according to a report from Andy Kent at the Dolphins' web site.

Louis predominantly played on the right side of Chicago’s offensive line, either at guard or tackle, lining up in 25 games over the last two seasons and starting in 28 of 41 overall during his tenure with the Bears. After starting the first 11 in 2012, however, Louis suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in late November, sidelining him for the remainder of the season. Louis was quoted in Kent’s report as wanting to be on the practice field once training camp gets underway for the Dolphins.
Miami has been one of the busier teams in the NFL since free agency started up, and Louis is a subtle addition to an area -- the Dolphins remain thin along the right side of the offensive line -- of need. In 2012, Miami allowed 37 sacks, tied for 14th-most in the league, with rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill under center. Moving on without tackle Jake Long, who signed with the St. Louis Rams this offseason, means bringing in quality players across the line is an added emphasis for head coach Joe Philbin and the Dolphins' brass.
If Louis fully recovers from his ACL injury, his experience playing and starting at both positions on the right side should bolster Miami’s offensive line as a whole.
