NFL news roundup: Osi Umenyiora finds new home, top draft prospects meet with teams

Free agency news rolls along with another big name finding a new home, some smaller signings, and unsigned players making team visits. The draft continues to heat up as well between pro days and private workouts.

Free agency may have slowed from its initial whirlwind, but it continues to move along with a few players making news on Wednesday night. The biggest news of the evening was Osi Umenyiora signing with the Atlanta Falcons, but that wasn't the only thing that happened.

Here is your roundup of all the latest NFL news:

Umenyiora signed with the Falcons in a move that had been expected for days. He should help replace John Abraham, whom the Falcons decided to release earlier in the month. Umenyiora is still excellent at getting to the quarterback, although he only recorded six sacks in 2012. He will likely split snaps in Atlanta, serving primarily as a rusher in passing situations.

Another former Giant defensive starter found a new home, as linebacker Chase Blackburn signed with the Panthers. Blackburn agreed to a two-year deal with Carolina, where he will serve as a backup and add depth to a group of linebackers that lost James Anderson to the Bears earlier in the offseason.

The Miami Dolphins bolstered their offensive line by signing Lance Louis. He will help an offensive line that allowed 37 sacks and lost starting left tackle Jake Long to free agency. Louis is recovering from ACL surgery, but can play either right guard or right tackle once healthy.

Miami is not done in free agency either, as they hope to add Brent Grimes, perhaps the best cornerback still available to replace Sean Smith, whom the Dolphins lost in free agency earlier this year.

The Tennessee Titans brought wide receiver Chaz Schilens in for a visit on Wednesday. Schilens didn't produce much for the Jets in 2012, but could add some needed depth to the Titans receiver corps.

Wednesday also had its share of NFL Draft news with schools hosting their pro days and players visiting various NFL teams. The most impressive story was that of running back Marcus Lattimore, who looked to be recovering well at the South Carolina Pro Day, where he did rehab drills for a room full of scouts.

Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro met with the Titans on Wednesday for a private workout, the second team he has met with privately after meeting with the Cowboys last week. He is expected to be a first-round selection in the 2013 draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs, who have the first overall pick in the draft, are bringing in cornerback Dee Milliner for a private workout. It is unlikely he'll be taken first overall, but Milliner will almost assuredly be selected within the first five picks of the draft.
